ST Communications goes global through RWS acquisition

RWS, the world-leading provider of technology-enabled language, content and intellectual property services, establishes a presence in Africa through the acquisition of ST Comms, who specialises in African languages.

“In 2008, I started ST Communications with the dream of being a market leader of translation services in Africa. To do this on one of the most linguistically diverse continents in the world is no small challenge and from humble beginnings, ST Comms has grown into one of Africa’s most reputable translation agencies. I am thrilled that we are now part of RWS, a global organisation with 65+ offices, which will open up new and exciting opportunities for all of us in this next chapter of our story,” says ST Comms CEO Sharon du Toit.

ST Comms, its clients and its wide network of linguists will undoubtedly benefit from the wealth of knowledge, resources and opportunities that RWS bring to the table with this acquisition.

In addition to their core business, RWS also boasts various talent development programmes, partnering with more than 700 universities, and a global internship programme that is active in more than 35 countries.

“RWS has been a long-standing client, our values align and with our passion and local expertise and their extensive language technology experience and people-oriented approach, joining RWS was an easy and logical choice,” du Toit adds.

Ian El-Mokadem, CEO of RWS, says that the acquisition “supports our long-term strategy to continually invest and pioneer in new capabilities and will enable our clients to deepen their relationships in fast-growing African markets.”
