The University of Surrey's Centre for Translation Studies (CTS) is an internationally recognised centre for research in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Communication Studies. Our focus is on the contribution to the theoretical advancement of translation, interpreting and intercultural studies whilst achieving real-world applicability by studying translation and interpreting as socio-technological practices, highlighting their economic and social value and their role as an enabling force for a globally connected world. Our particular strengths are in translation and interpreting technologies, legal interpreting, multimodal translation, and intercultural communication. Methodologically, our focus is on the participation of stakeholders in our research to reduce the gap between theory and practice, and to inform public thinking about, and raise the profile of, professional translation/interpreting.
