AILQA uses large language models (LLMs) to identify translation errors following the industry-standard MQM error typology. Our method leverages multi-step chain-of-thought prompting with targeted application of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to predict client-specific errors. The RAG approach references historical examples of human reviewed translation that reflect client preferences for style, tone, and terminology. AI-flagged errors are delivered to human linguists who evaluate the results, generating validated error results at scale and providing a valuable feedback loop for long-term training of the model.  

The power of AILQA resides in its ability to focus the human reviewer’s attention on only the most salient potential errors, avoiding time wasted in reading good translations. The efficiency of AI processing allows for entire documents to be evaluated, saving the human linguist time and expanding evaluation beyond traditional sampling limitations. The solution is part of Opal Enable, Welocalize’s agentic product includes tools such as AIQE (quality estimation) and AIPE (post-editing).
