Empowering the Next Generation: memoQ Hosts Girls' Day 2025

On April 10, 2025 - memoQ proudly opened its doors to a group of enthusiastic high school girls as part of the annual Girls' Day initiative, organized by the Women in Science Association (Nők a Tudományban Egyesület). This event aims to inspire young women to explore careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields where female representation remains disproportionately low.

A Day of Discovery and Inspiration

The day began with a warm welcome from memoQ’s Chief People Officer, Kata Juhász, setting the tone for an engaging and inspiring program. Before the sessions started, the girls were given a tour of the Budapest office, where they had the opportunity to meet members from various departments and get a sense of the dynamic work environment at memoQ.

The morning session featured Orsolya Sas (UX Designer), Andrea Tóth (UI Designer), and Krisztina Závecz (Frontend Software Developer), who showed how software development and UX/UI design go hand in hand. Participants got a behind-the-scenes look at how digital products are created and why user-focused thinking is essential. The girls also took part in interactive tasks, working together to solve challenges and apply what they had just learned in a fun, collaborative way.

Lights, Camera, Translation

After lunch, the girls joined a session led by our Senior Training Manager, Anna Mohácsi-Gorove. Through clips from Hollywood films, she demonstrated the powerful role translation plays in shaping how we experience stories. The session also highlighted how mistranslations can alter meaning or humor, with several entertaining Hungarian examples from well-known movies. The girls learned how language, culture, and creativity all come together in the world of audiovisual translation.

Finding Our Superpowers in Tech

In the final session of the day, Engineering Manager Erzsébet Kolcsár invited the girls to explore their own strengths and how these can become assets in the tech industry. She emphasized that whether someone is detail-oriented, imaginative, analytical, or people-focused, there is a place for them in technology.

Inclusive Voices in Tech

memoQ is proud to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, heard, and supported. Throughout the day, participants met women who play important roles across design, development, training, and leadership. Their stories and insights offered an honest and encouraging view of what it is like to build a career in tech as a woman, showing that there is no single path and that what matters most is the courage to begin.

What’s Next

As the day wrapped up, the girls walked away feeling excited and inspired. Girls' Day is just one part of memoQ’s broader vision to help shape a future where the tech industry is open to everyone. In today’s world, it’s crucial to let young girls know that they have the power to choose their own path. By providing experiences like this, memoQ aims to inspire them to follow their dreams and believe in the limitless opportunities ahead.
