GALA 2024 Conference Student Volunteers

Apply to volunteer at GALA 2024 Valencia! Conference volunteers help GALA staff host one of the most popular, informational, and well-loved events for the language industry: GALA's annual conference. 

Applications are open to students currently enrolled in translation, localization, interpreting, and related programs/majors (such as computational linguistics, international business, etc.). Ten (10) students will be selected to join GALA in Valencia.

  • Session room monitoring
  • Registration set-up and break-down

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an academic program. All eligible student applications will be entered into a drawing. 

Applications are open 05 - 16 February. Volunteers selected will be notified by the end of February.

How to apply:

  1. Log in to your GALA user account. If you do not have a GALA account, create one using your school email address.
  2. Click the button to apply, this will open the application form.
  3. Complete and save the application form by 16 February 2024 at 11:59 pm PST.

After the deadline, GALA staff will review all the applications for eligibility (see requirements below). All eligible applications will be entered into a drawing. Selected applicants will have one week to accept the position.

What you will need:

  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Proof of Enrollment that shows you are currently enrolled in an academic program; examples: an unofficial transcript or a signed note from university staff on official letterhead.

Volunteer Eligibility:

  • This opportunity is open to first-time GALA conference volunteers.
  • You do not need to be a GALA member to apply.
  • Student volunteers must be currently enrolled in an academic program focusing on translation, localization, interpreting, linguistics, and related programs/majors. If you are unsure if your program/major qualifies, contact Alicia at [email protected] with the details and how it relates to localization.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Volunteers work one full day and one half day in exchange for regular conference attendance the other day. All volunteers are required to attend a virtual training in early April and an onsite training in Valencia.

  • Sunday 21 April: mandatory onsite training at 11:00-11:30 am
  • Sunday 21 April: full day
  • Monday 22 April: full day
  • Tuesday 23 April: half day (morning or afternoon shift)

Please note:

  • Volunteers will receive a ticket to attend GALA's Monday night dinner.
  • Meals for main conference days include morning snack break, lunch, afternoon snack break, and Monday night dinner.
  • Volunteers must make their own travel and lodging arrangements. GALA does not provide any accommodation or travel assistance; you may indicate if you are interested in shared accommodations with other volunteers on the application form (this is not a commitment or a guarantee).
  • Volunteers may register for conference add-ons (tours, events) at their own personal cost if they are not assigned to work at that time.
