EX:CHANGE 2026: A new kind of conference for language professionals

Partner News,

If you're ready to explore the potential for change, don't miss EX:CHANGE 2026. Organized by the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) and marking its 40th anniversary, this two-day event takes place 1–2 July 2026 in Milton Keynes, UK and is focused on participation, not presentation.

Designed for translators, interpreters, language service providers, academics, and the clients and buyers who work with them, the program is built around three timely and important themes: engaging with clients and risk management, entrepreneurship and business development, and ethical practices in the age of AI. Sessions take the form of small-group discussions, practitioner showcases, and interactive workshops, so attendees shape the conversation rather than just observe it.

The format is deliberate. The challenges facing the language profession - from AI disruption to shifting client expectations - won't be solved by any one part of the industry alone. EX:CHANGE is designed to bring different perspectives into the same room and turn them into practical, shared outcomes.

Keynote speakers include Dr Sonia Koller (King's College London) on the psychology of entrepreneurship, Christophe Fricker (University of Bristol) on translation and identity, and Andy Benzo, President of the American Translators Association, on AI, ethics, and the future of the profession. Our panels include Language Service Providers Comtec (James Brown) and Supertext (Dr Samuel Läubli), clients (Freedom from Torture, Trustpilot, Spotify), plus representatives of entrepreneurship and academia.

A poet in residence, Kate Fox, will add a creative dimension throughout the event.

For GALA members who work closely with freelance translators and interpreters, this is a timely opportunity to engage directly with the practitioner community on the issues reshaping the profession.
