Questions and Answers

What is WorldReady?

WorldReady is the annual international conference of GALA, the Globalization and Localization Association, a nonprofit trade association founded in 2002. It brings together localization, global content, and language technology professionals for programming on multilingual content, translation technology, and global market readiness. GALA has convened an annual conference since 2009. The 2027 edition, WorldReady Lisbon 2027, takes place 12–14 April 2027 in Lisbon, Portugal.

What is the theme of WorldReady Lisbon 2027?

The theme is Real Problems, Honest Talk for an Industry in Transition. It asks speakers and delegates to share what is working alongside what is not, including failed pilots, missed predictions, and challenges that are still unresolved, so that everyone leaves with insight they can apply rather than only the conclusions they expected to hear.

Who attends WorldReady?

Delegates come from across the language services and global content industry. About half are executives at small and mid-sized companies. The remainder are localization program managers, vendor managers, global marketing and content leaders, enterprise content buyers, language technology product teams, and academic researchers. GALA’s membership spans more than 60 countries, and WorldReady draws delegates mainly from Europe, North America, Asia, and Latin America.

Why is WorldReady important for localization professionals?

WorldReady is one of the few industry events where language service providers, enterprise buyers, technology vendors, and researchers meet as peers rather than as buyers and sellers. Because GALA is a member-governed nonprofit and the program is selected through an open call for proposals, sessions are chosen on merit rather than sold as sponsorship (with a few exceptions for Innovation Day). For localization professionals, that means candid discussion of shared problems and practical takeaways rather than a series of product pitches.

What is Innovation Day at WorldReady Lisbon 2027?

Innovation Day is the opening day of WorldReady Lisbon 2027, held Monday 12 April 2027 at the Centro de Congressos de Lisboa. It is a full day of programming on language technology and what it takes to make it work in production, covering AI and automation in multilingual workflows, technology evaluation, and adoption at scale. Innovation Day is included with full registration and is also available as a standalone Monday ticket. It will feature some paid content from our sponsors and exhibitors.

Can I attend only one day of WorldReady Lisbon 2027?

Yes, for Innovation Day. A standalone ticket is available for Monday 12 April 2027 and gives access to that day only. The main program on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 April requires full registration. Registration opens in December, with pricing announced before then.

What topics are covered at WorldReady?

The WorldReady Lisbon 2027 program is organized around three tracks. StrategyReady covers business models, compliance, technology investment, and what to translate. GlobalExperienceReady covers multilingual experiences across multimedia, interpreting, and low-resource languages, including content consumed by AI agents. CareerReady covers skills, leadership, and resilience as roles change. Sessions are selected from an open call for proposals, and the full agenda is published early in the new year once the program committee has reviewed and selected winning proposals.

How can I register for WorldReady Lisbon 2027?

Registration opens in December 2026. Pricing will be announced before then and will include member and non-member rates, an early-bird period, and a standalone Innovation Day ticket. Join the GALA mailing list to be notified as soon as registration opens.

How much does WorldReady Lisbon 2027 cost?

Registration opens in December 2026 and pricing will be announced before then. GALA members receive a reduced rate, an early-bird rate will be available for a limited period after registration opens, and a lower-priced standalone ticket will be offered for Innovation Day on Monday 12 April. There is no late registration surcharge. Join the mailing list to receive pricing as soon as it is published.

Do I need to be a GALA member to attend?

No. WorldReady Lisbon 2027 is open to anyone working in or adjacent to the language services and global content industry. GALA members receive a discounted registration rate, and membership is available to both organizations and individuals, but membership is not required to attend or to submit a session proposal.

Where is WorldReady Lisbon 2027 taking place?

WorldReady Lisbon 2027 takes place at the Centro de Congressos de Lisboa (CCL) in Lisbon, Portugal, 12–14 April 2027. The venue is located in the Alcântara/Belém district on the Lisbon waterfront, about 30 to 40 minutes from Lisbon Airport (LIS) by taxi or rideshare.

Is there a virtual or online option?

No. WorldReady Lisbon 2027 is an in-person event only. All sessions take place at the Centro de Congressos de Lisboa and there is no livestream or virtual attendance option.

What language is WorldReady held in?

WorldReady is held in English, but automatic interpreting will be available thanks to our sponsors. Delegates come from more than 60 countries and many speak English as an additional language, so speakers are asked to present clearly and slowly.

What networking opportunities are available?

The WorldReady schedule is built around extended time for conversation. It includes a long lunch break each day, morning and afternoon refreshment breaks where all tracks pause together, an exhibition that is always open, the GALA Dinner on Monday evening, and co-located community events. Round table sessions and informal group meetups give delegates a way to find peers working on the same problems.

When is the deadline to submit a session proposal?

Proposals for WorldReady Lisbon 2027 are due 31 October 2026. Formats include fire starters, perspective panels, round tables, and Academy Labs, and you can propose your own format. Submissions are open to members and non-members alike, each one includes a one-minute video, and proposals cannot be edited after submission. The program committee shares decisions by 9 January 2027. Full details and the submission form are on the call for proposals page.

How can I sponsor or exhibit at WorldReady Lisbon 2027?

The sponsorship and exhibition catalog will be published soon. The exhibition is located in the central foyer area of the Centro de Congressos de Lisboa and is open throughout all three days. Contact GALA at events@gala-global.org to be notified when the catalog is ready. (We're aiming for early November.)
