What Is WorldReady Lisbon 2027?

WorldReady Lisbon 2027 is GALA’s annual conference for the language and global content industry, and it is where that industry stops performing and starts comparing notes. Held 12–14 April 2027 at the Centro de Congressos de Lisboa in Lisbon, Portugal, WorldReady gathers localization managers, global content strategists, language service providers, and language technology companies for three days to discuss multilingual content operations, translation technology, and global market readiness. The 2027 theme is Real Problems, Honest Talk for an Industry in Transition, and we mean the honest part.

A working conference, not a spectator sport

Monday 12 April is Innovation Day, a full day dedicated to language technology and the unglamorous business of getting it to work in production. Tuesday and Wednesday continue the program across three carefully curated tracks. At GALA, the agenda is built for practitioners, so it may read a little more nerdy and a little less flashy.

Everything happens in English, in one beautiful venue, with plenty of breaks built for networking.

The honest talk part

Most of us have left a conference feeling inspired but none the wiser, having heard exactly what we expected to hear. We don't want that at WorldReady. Real Problems, Honest Talk asks speakers and delegates to put the failed pilots and the missed predictions on the table next to the wins. If your big initiative went sideways, there are a few hundred people in Lisbon who would rather hear about that than sit through another highlight video.

Who is in the room

Practitioners, that's who. (We don't believe in false hierarchies separating buyers and vendors.) About half of WorldReady delegates are executives at SMEs. The rest are localization program managers, solutions architects, global marketing and content leaders, product developers, vendor managers, and researchers. They come from Europe, North America, Asia, and Latin America, which is roughly what you would expect from an association with members in more than 60 countries. What do they all have in common? They're grappling with the same problems.

Why GALA runs it this way

GALA is a nonprofit, and WorldReady exists to serve the industry rather than sell to it. The idea is to give people who work in global content somewhere to speak openly, including with the companies they spend the rest of the year competing against. That has been the founding principle since 2002, when the association was formed as a non-proprietary, collaborative body. It still guides how the program gets built.

Three Days in Lisbon

Innovation Day opens the week, then two full days of the main program.

Monday 12 April

Innovation Day

Language technology and what it takes to run it in production. Included with full registration, and available as a standalone ticket. The GALA dinner follows in the evening.

Tuesday 13 April

Main program

Sessions across all three tracks, a long lunch break for the exhibition, and refreshment breaks where every track pauses together.

Wednesday 14 April

Main program

A second full day of sessions, closing in time for evening flights across Europe.

Innovation Day: Monday 12 April 2027

Innovation Day opens WorldReady with a full day on language technology and what it actually takes to run it in production. Programming covers AI and automation in live multilingual workflows, technology evaluation, and the operational decisions behind adopting new tooling at scale. Sessions mix curated conference content with in-depth presentations from technology providers, so you get both the independent view and a proper look at the systems themselves.

The exhibition is open all day, and the GALA dinner follows on Monday evening.

Included with full registration

Every WorldReady delegate has access to Innovation Day at no additional cost.

Standalone Monday ticket

Want the technology program without the full conference? Register for Innovation Day on its own. Standalone tickets give access to Monday 12 April only.

Pricing for both options will be announced soon. Join the mailing list to be notified when registration opens.

Why WorldReady Matters for Localization Professionals

The composition of the room

Most industry events are built around a single audience and sort everyone else into buyers and sellers. WorldReady deliberately brings the whole ecosystem together, because the hardest questions of this transition sit between groups. What should clients buy? What should providers sell? What should technology do, and where do people add the most value? Those questions are easier to answer when everyone involved is in the room, and at WorldReady you may well be sitting next to the person on the other side of your own buying relationship.

As a nonprofit, GALA has no single commercial interest to promote. That neutrality is what lets every part of the industry sit at the same table, and it is why the program answers to the community rather than to sponsors. Sessions are selected on merit through an open call for proposals, and GALA typically receives well over 100 submissions for each conference.

You can watch a talk anywhere. You can only meet people in person.

Honest conversation, not just information

People speak more openly in a room than on a recording. You can watch a presentation from anywhere, but the candid warning from someone who tried the same tool, the partnership that starts at a lunch table, and the mentor you meet in a hallway all depend on being in the same place at the same time. In a year built around honest talk, being there matters more than usual.

Professional development you can use next week

Sessions are chosen for evidence and practical value. The program committee favors proposals backed by data, case studies, and direct experience. Academy Labs run long enough for hands-on work, perspective panels are built around genuine disagreement rather than consensus, and round tables let smaller groups work through problems together. Delegates leave with approaches they can apply to live projects.

Global Content Trends Featured at WorldReady

The program is organized around three thematic tracks, with sessions selected from an open call for proposals.

StrategyReady

Smarter decisions about business models, compliance, technology investment, and what to translate in the first place. StrategyReady asks what leaders should invest in, stop investing in, build, buy, or automate in a market shaped by AI, regulation, and economic pressure. Expect sessions on everything from the collapse of the per-word model to the EU AI Act.

GlobalExperienceReady

Multilingual experiences that feel natural and trustworthy, covering multimedia, interpreting, and low-resource languages. GlobalExperienceReady explores how to create products, content, and services that work across languages and cultures, including for audiences that are now AI agents rather than people.

CareerReady

Skills, leadership, and resilience when technology changes faster than job descriptions. CareerReady looks at how individual professionals stay valuable and how organizations build teams that hold up through uncertain years.

Session formats built for participation

Format Length What it is for
Fire starters 30 minutes Case studies and lessons learned, told quickly.
Perspectives 60 minutes Panels built on genuinely different points of view.
Round tables 60 minutes Facilitated peer discussion in smaller groups.
Academy Labs 90 minutes Hands-on workshops with tools you can use right away.

The Call for Proposals closes 31 October 2026

We are looking for proposals grounded in evidence, examples, and direct experience. Sessions should be non-promotional, new to the conference circuit, and pitched at an experienced audience. You do not need to be a GALA member to submit, and you do not need a success story. Proposals about false starts and unresolved challenges are welcome, as long as others can learn from them.

Choose a fire starter, perspective panel, round table, or Academy Lab, or propose your own format if it creates meaningful conversation. Every submission includes a one-minute video answering a single question: what makes your talk an honest talk?

Prepare your full proposal before you begin, because submissions cannot be edited once sent. The program committee shares decisions by 9 January 2027.

The CCL sits in the Belém district on the Lisbon waterfront, close to the city’s main museums and a short taxi or rideshare ride from central Lisbon. Sessions, the exhibition, and catering are all housed in the same building, with generous foyer space linking the auditoriums.

Getting there

Lisbon Airport (LIS) is roughly 30 to 40 minutes from the venue by taxi or rideshare, and is served by direct flights from many cities across Europe, North America, Africa, and the Middle East. Lisbon is also reachable by rail from Porto and from Madrid. Delegates traveling from outside the EU should check visa requirements early, and we can provide invitation letters on request.

Accommodation

There is a wide range of hotels within a short ride of the CCL, in Belém and in central Lisbon. Recommended hotels and any negotiated rates will be published alongside registration. April in Lisbon is mild and popular, so booking early is worthwhile.

The theme is Real Problems, Honest Talk for an Industry in Transition.
