AI and Sign Language Accessibility
Interpreting SIG Meeting - May 2026
As AI becomes more visible in the accessibility and sign language worlds, concerns around job impact and professional boundaries are growing. In this interactive session, Will Berry from Signapse will join us in an open discussion around the relationship between human expertise and AI‑driven sign language technology. Rather than positioning AI as a replacement, the conversation will explore where technology can responsibly support access, where human interpreters remain essential, and how these two worlds can coexist. We encourage active engagement from interpreters, LSPs, and accessibility professionals.
- Insight into positioning of AI as complementary, not competitive
- Open discussion on industry concerns around jobs and professional trust
- A perspective on ethical use of AI in sign language
- Practical framing for a future involving humans and technology
Join us on Wednesday 13 May for this next meeting of GALA's Interpreting SIG, featuring guest speaker Will Berry, CRO of Signapse.ai.
