Being a member of GALA allows me to benefit from the knowledge and experience of the entire community.

In your view, what is the primary function and purpose of GALA? How can the association have a positive impact on its members?

GALA’s primary function is to build communities within the Language Industry and adjacent industries by sharing knowledge, creating and advancing best practices, and being the go-to organization for getting things done in our industry.

The language industry is not a monolithic group of people and companies. The needs and demands of the various groups can be very different. When acting alone, many of the industry’s constituent organizations often hold a self-centered viewpoint, which can easily skew the discussion in a subjective manner. GALA is an organization whose main purpose is to inform the industry about developments in various parts of the industry and to provide objective information and knowledge to its members.

How have you engaged with GALA as a member?

I am a regular attendee at the annual GALA conference and have volunteered for several of the working groups that advise GALA. I also attend many of the other types of content that GALA provides e.g. SIGs, Academy sessions and webinars.

Why would you make a good GALA board member? What will you bring to the table?

Although having held many roles in high-tech , I am a primarily a product manager, bringing many groups together to ensure success. From the youngest ever head of a UK University Computer Center, to the CEO/founder of several startups in the US, I know how to build communities. The language industry is facing a struggle when embracing AI, and GALA needs strong leadership to make sure that we are all in alignment moving forward.

Which segment(s) of GALA's membership do you represent? What perspective will you bring?

I represent Audio Visual Localization as well as AVL LSCs and technology companies. In addition, I represent small to medium sized businesses.

What is one thing that every language industry professional needs to hear right now?

Despite everything that is said about AI and LLMs, there is a very strong light at the end of the tunnel.
