Organization Overview

The Joint Postgraduate Studies programme (J.P.P.S.) “Conference Interpreting and Translation” was introduced in 2003 through a Presidential Decree (Government Gazette 272 vol. B’ 10-2-2004) and is run by the Schools of Philology, English Language and Literature, French Language and Literature, German Language and Literature and Italian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The organisation and the structure of the programme are regulated by the Postgraduate Studies’ Law (Government Gazette 148/16-7-2008), and the Aristotle University Regulation (Government Gazette 1099/5-9-2000, vol.1, 1562/13-12-2002, vol. 2 and 1517/11-10-2004 vol.2). The aim of the programme is to train interpreters and translators of modern languages to a fully professional standard and to develop knowledge and research in the field of Translation Studies.

In 2014, the translation course was awarded the “European Master’s in Translation” (EMT) quality label.

The J.P.P.S. is run by the Special Interdepartmental Committee (S.I.C), which consists of representatives of the five Schools. The Committee is responsible for all subjects, both administrative and academic.

The programme is funded by the Greek state; the course in interpreting is partly financed by the Directorate General for Interpretation of the European Commission (SCIC).
