Welocalize Unveils Open Source Roadmap for GlobalSight

Welocalize

Tuesday, 7 October, 2008

Frederick, Maryland, USA (October 7, 2008) – Welocalize today releases an open source roadmap for its GlobalSight Translation Management System (TMS). With a target date of January 5, 2009, GlobalSight will be the first open source TMS product that provides an easy-to-use and scalable translation management platform specifically tailored for companies to manage, translate and deliver global content.

Since the launch of GlobalSight (www.globalsight.com) in July of this year, Welocalize has committed to releasing a stable and robust, open source TMS to the public. A twelve-person development team has been working on transitioning the product to open source by replacing several third-party software components with open source equivalents. The team successfully completed the initial open source build on September 27, and is on target to complete the final release:

- October 20: Alpha release
- November 20: Beta release
- November 20 - December 31: Integration Testing
- January 5, 2009: Final Release

“GlobalSight is a robust, enterprise-class TMS product with over 1.5 million lines of source code," explains Gary Prioste, VP of Technology Solutions at Welocalize. "Not only are we replacing the underlying technology, but we are also refreshing and improving some of the core functionality, including fine-tuning the content adapters to ensure GlobalSight supports the latest data formats, and optimizing the workflow component. The first open source build was a success, and we are confident we will meet our release date in January."
