Welocalize Leads New Open-Source Initiative
Development of GlobalSight Ambassador to be driven by open collaboration
Frederick, MD, USA (June 9, 2008) – Welocalize, Inc., a leading provider of integrated globalization services, today announced the launch of the GlobalSight Open Source Initiative: www.globalsight.com. The initiative aims to drive the development of GlobalSight Ambassador, an industry-leading Translation Management System (TMS), through open collaboration. The website provides a platform for all interested parties to learn about the initiative and get involved in the program.
Over US$50 million has been invested in the GlobalSight product over the last 10 years
Welocalize inherited the GlobalSight Ambassador product through the acquisition of Transware in May 2008. The Ambassador Suite originated in 1997 under GlobalSight, a then Seattle-based international web development company. For the next eight years, GlobalSight grew Ambassador from a software tool to develop and maintain multilingual websites, to the industry’s first Translation Management System (TMS) to automate the translation process and leverage previously translated material, all in a collaborative environment. In 2006 Transware acquired GlobalSight and further developed the product to include added features such as an advanced, customizable workflow engine.
“I expect this to be nothing short of the beginning of a revolution in our industry,” exclaims Smith Yewell, CEO of Welocalize. “Clients have been held hostage to captive technology solutions that have not met their needs for too long. We plan to open up development of the GlobalSight product and drive innovation through collaboration with clients based entirely on their needs.”
Gary Prioste, Vice President of Technology Solutions for Welocalize, is leading the GlobalSight Open Source Initiative. “The first step in building our open-source program will be to gather information," explains Mr. Prioste. “The new website offers a basic foundation for clients and other interested parties to learn about the product and provide preliminary information on their interest in the initiative. As we proceed with the planning and development stages of the program, the GlobalSight website will expand into an interactive, online community that reflects the strategic and tactical objectives of the program.”
