TOIN to Distribute Toshiba's The HON-YAKU Machine Translation Engine and Launch MT Services
TOKYO (July 23, 2013) - TOIN Corporation, Asia's most established localization and translation provider, partners with Toshiba Solutions Corporation to distribute The HON-YAKU series machine translation engine. TOIN will sell Toshiba's The HON-YAKU software and provide user support and maintenance service. In addition, TOIN has begun offering machine translation solutions that leverage The HON-YAKU software and human translation. Hon-yaku is the Japanese word for translation.
"We think it's an ideal pairing for TOIN to distribute Toshiba's excellent machine translation tools. We are well positioned to offer expert user support and maintenance services to Toshiba users," said Maro Watanabe, CEO of TOIN. "Because we are also a translation and localization company, this partnership allows us to effectively offer custom solutions that may involve machine translation only, human translation only, or a combination of machine and human translation."
The HON-YAKU Enterprise is available for both enterprise customers and language service providers who do not wish to install packaged translation software on each PC. Installed on server machines, this software benefits people on both sides of the internet or intranet, helping them offer or use the translation engine through web browsers on PCs. Users can also share dictionaries on the server. The software runs on Windows Server 2008 and requires only a web browser on the client PC side.
The HON-YAKU Enterprise provides translation from English to Japanese and Japanese to English, Chinese to Japanese and Japanese to Chinese, and Korean to Japanese and Japanese to Korean. The HON-YAKU also supports API for developing translation solutions with other applications. The HON-YAKU Enterprise is compatible with SDL Trados Studio.
The HON-YAKU engine is a result of Toshiba's 30 years of research and development in computational language processing. In 2009, the product won the Asia-Pacific Association for Machine Translation's Nagao Award, named for Dr. Makoto Nagao who was the association's first president. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made significant advancements in research, development and commercialization of machine translation systems.
TOIN has been active in translation and localization industry discussions of machine translation applications since the 1970s and belongs to the Asia-Pacific Association for Machine Translation.
"Without question machine translation is coming, but it's knowing how and where to use it, depending on the type of translation need, that is critical" said Aki Ito, TOIN Director of International Operations, who conducts translation technology orientation seminars for the Translation Automation User Society. "TOIN can help enterprise customers implement the new tools wisely."
