For the Second Consecutive Year, LSA American Sign Language Interpreter Selected to Interpret for President Barack Obama this Veterans Day

Horsham, Pa. (November 5, 2010) – On Thursday, November 11th, thousands are expected to congregate at Arlington National Cemetery for the 57th Annual National Veterans Day Observance. As President Barack Obama takes center stage at Memorial Amphitheater to deliver the keynote speech, members of the deaf and hard of hearing communities will be able to follow along, thanks to an ongoing initiative by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to consistently provide accessibility to all of our nation’s veterans.


As the language service provider for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Language Services Associates, Inc. (LSA) will have the honor of providing an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter for President Barack Obama this Veterans Day. “It is an honor and delight to be able to continue serving the deaf and hard of hearing communities on such a significant day for our nation,” said Laura K.T. Schriver, President and CEO, LSA. “We look forward to providing this service for many years to come.”


The interpreter that LSA has selected for this assignment is Megan Dabbs. A resident of Damascus, Maryland, Dabbs is an RID certified ASL interpreter. She has been interpreting in the Metropolitan area for the past 22 years. “I have had the privilege of interpreting for many dignitaries and celebrities in the past; but, I am very honored to have been selected by Language Service Associates to interpret for our Commander in Chief, President Barack Obama, on such a momentous occasion,” said Dabbs. “I believe it is very important that our nation's deaf population is afforded access to view President Obama's speech to honor our nation's Veterans.”
