RS Components slashes time to market with SDL
Accelerates product collateral availability with automated translation technology
Maidenhead, United Kingdom -- RS Components, global supplier of electronic and electrical components, is using SDL Knowledge-based Translation System (SDL KbT System) to help drive business growth.
By using SDL's system, which combines patented automated translation technology with human translation , to produce multilingual collateral production into French, German and Italian, RS Components has reduced time-to-market by 35 per cent, reduced costs by 27 per cent and improved productivity by 25 per cent.
With an average of 60,000 products per catalogue, the system has already handled over a million words in just half the time that would have been needed using traditional methods.
"In an increasingly competitive environment, every second between product completion and launch counts," said Rob Fifield, head of media production at RS Components. "Any delay in launching a new product in every target market will damage potential business growth. By using SDL Knowledge-based Translation System, we have improved the productivity and substantially reduced the costs of providing multilingual content."
Rob Fifield continued: "SDL's solution is also helping us to launch new products on the web more rapidly and continuously across multiple markets. The next step is to increase the amount of content handled by the system - we have just added Spanish with the intention of introducing further languages in the near future."
"Any organization with international ambition will fail if it does not develop a Global Information Management (GIM) strategy underpinned by technology," added Dr. Chris Boorman, CMO at SDL International. "Forward-thinking organizations such as RS Components have recognized that the winning formula for global success is accelerated time-to-market while maintaining brand consistency and company reputation. RS Components is not only achieving faster time-to-revenue but also capitalizing on the XML format to drive content reuse and improve the authoring process."
SDL KbT System is the intelligent combination of translation automation software with linguistic skills, delivering up to three times the throughput of traditional methods. It is built on industry standards including XML and TMX to protect investment in translation assets and provide easy integration with enterprise systems.
