New localization initiative to define XLIFF Object Model standard

Wednesday, 18 November, 2015

OASIS is starting an initiative to develop an independent Object Model for building localization tools, platforms and systems based on the XLIFF 2.0 open localization standard.

The XLIFF Object Model and Other Serializations (XLIFF OMOS) Technical Committee will provide tool makers and organizations with one format to interchange all their localization data with partners, saving the time and cost of funneling data between incompatible systems.

The XLIFF OMOS Committee will also define an API, XLIFF JSON serialization, and lossless mappings between XLIFF and related GILT standards. The group will maintain the Translation Memory eXchange (TMX) standard and publish best practices for XLIFF 2, TMX, TBX, SRX, ITS, and other GILT standards.

Intel, SDL, and Trinity College Dublin co-proposed XLIFF OMOS. More organizations are expected to join in advance of the first meeting, which will be held 8 Dec by teleconference.
