Localization Manager for TYPO3 CMS 6.2 released
Saarbrücken — The TYPO3 CMS extension “Localization Manager” (l10nmgr) for translation management is now also available for the LTS release TYPO3 CMS version 6.2. The aim: Full support of version 6.2, maintenance and future development until at least 2017. So it’s over to the community now.
The Localization Manager 3.6 for TYPO3 CMS 6.2 LTS (long term support) has been launched. The extension is available for download from the TYPO3 Extension Repository with immediate effect. The new version is the result of a cooperation project undertaken by the Localization Manager Team bringing together Loctimize (Saarbrücken), dkd (Frankfurt) and typovision (Munich). The updated extension, developed with the support of sponsors, includes all functionality offered by of the previous version, such as online translation, export and import of translations in Excel or a localization friendly XML format, as well as automation.
The aim is full support of the extension for the life cycle of TYPO3 6.2 LTS until 2017. However, more is in store:
“The foundations have been laid. Now our hope is that the community will build on it”, say Daniel Zielinski, managing director of Loctimize and Olivier Dobberkau, managing director of dkd. Both software users and developers are invited to share knowledge and experience on the TYPO3 developer platform Forge. According to the developers, “User feedback, requests and their ideas are crucial for the maintenance and development of the extension.”
The financing remains a live topic: In addition to the traditional sponsoring, alternative means of financing such as crowdfunding and early access programs are under consideration for the future of the Localization Manager.
Plans for a “code sprint” this autumn are already underway; these will include the further development of the Localization Manager. Dates will be announced in due course.
About the Localization Manager
The Localization Manager (l10nmgr) is an extension of the Web Content Management System TYPO3 CMS for the management of translations. The Localization Manager facilitates the online translation of new and edited content, but also the export of such content for offline translation outside of the TYPO3 environment. This enables professional workflows and the use of translation software. The Open Source Tool, developed by the founder of TYPO3 Kasper Skårhøj in 2007, is now being maintained and further developed by the Localization Manager Team.
