Language Services Associates and the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters Announce Joint Webinar on Healthcare Interpreter Certification

CCHI, one of two groups leading the effort behind healthcare interpreter certification, currently offers two examinations for healthcare interpreters: the Associate Healthcare Interpreter (AHITM) exam and the Spanish Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHITM)exam. This webinar will discuss the meaning and value of the AHITM credential for medical providers, including hospitals, health plans, clinics and home health services. During this 60-minute webinar, you will learn more about the current status of healthcare interpreter certification, what the Associate Healthcare Interpreter examination measures, the specific ways hospitals and healthcare organizations benefit from using AHITM certified interpreters and how this credential answers the future needs of the Joint Commission.

About the Speakers:
Mara Youdelman is Chair of the CCHI and a Senior Attorney at the National Health Law Program (NHeLP). At NHeLP, Mara directs the National Language Access Advocacy Project, funded by the California Endowment, to increase awareness of language access issues at the federal level. She also coordinates a national coalition to develop a consensus-driven agenda to improve policies and funding for individuals with limited English proficiency.
Armando Ezquerra Hasbun is the Director of Programs for LSA. In this role, Armando is responsible for overseeing the research and creation of all LSA’s interpreter programs, while ensuring they run properly and carry out their objectives. Armando is also a federally-certified court interpreter, a certified trainer for the nationally recognized “Bridging the Gap” medical interpreter training program and a professor of interpretation at La Salle University.
