KantanMT Welcomes First Italian University, IULM University of Milan to its Academic Program
KantanMT expands localization and language technology education in Italy with the addition of IULM University of Milan to its rapidly expanding university partner program
KantanMT is pleased to announce a new academic partnership with IULM University of Milan. As a direct result of the partnership, students from the faculty of Interpreting, Translation, Linguistic and Cultural Studies will learn fundamental skills in building, managing and customising highly scalable, cloud-based Machine Translation systems as part of the course; Machine Translation and Post Editing.
The course, Machine Translating and Post editing, which began this month, is led by Lecturer Michael Farrell. As part of their studies, 30 students will gain access to both KantanMT.com and KantanLQR™ (Language Quality Review) a new online tool for automating the language quality review process in the cloud.
The International University of Languages and Media IULM is universally recognised as a centre of excellence in Italy for teaching and training in the fields of communication, languages, tourism and the valorisation of cultural heritage, professional spheres, which are today highly attractive and particularly stimulating. Benefiting from a vocation oriented towards integrating cultural preparation and professional competences, the University sees its role as that of a meeting point between the academic world and the job market. It guarantees all its students a sound preparation, it proposes innovative courses of study, it offers cutting edge services, it sets up contacts with the world of work and provides motivation for study experiences abroad.
Based on the model of American campuses, the IULM University buildings form an extremely modern complex, which is technologically advanced and equipped with structures designed to provide spaces not only for study, but also for socialising. Over the years’ new buildings have been constructed around the main building to house lecture halls, auditoria, research institutes, the university library and the student residence.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to get a taste of using a real customizable MT engine, rather than just learning the theory behind statistical machine translation,” says Michael Farrell, Lecturer in the faculty of Interpreting, Translation, Linguistic and Cultural Studies at IULM University. “Post-editing is increasing in demand, and it is now an essential part of a master’s degree course in translation.”
KantanMT.com is fully integrated into the university’s translation technology module and covers principles and practice in Translation Memory (TM) and Machine Translation (MT) technology. The unique customisation features of KantanMT.com will enable students to gain a thorough understanding of Statistical Machine Translation.
