Iconic joins premiere localisation industry association GALA
- Iconic to join world leading trade association for the language industry
- CEO to share key Neural MT insights at GALA 2017 Amsterdam in March
Dublin - January 19, 2017 - Iconic Translation Machines (Iconic), a leading Irish machine translation (MT) software and solutions provider, today announces that it has joined GALA (Globalization & Localization Association). GALA is a non-profit international industry association, offering a platform for communication, research, and collaboration between localisation companies worldwide. It acts as a shared community to advance innovation, discuss industry developments, and formulate best practice.
“Iconic has always been an active presence at our annual GALA conferences. We are delighted to have them formally join the GALA community and look forward to their continued contributions in the language technology space,” said Laura Brandon, Executive Director at GALA.
With both the MT and localisation spaces going through a period of rapid growth, GALA provides a valuable forum for its members to liaise on the challenges that face the expanding industry. GALA is home to a library of webinars, videos, articles, and other educational material which has proven to be a valuable resource for the industry as a whole. GALA also hosts the annual "Language of Business" conference, a key gathering of voices from every sector of the localisation world with a wide variety of expert talks, workshops, and panels.
Iconic CEO John Tinsley will be attending the upcoming "Language of Business" conference, taking place in the Hotel Okura Amsterdam, from March 26 - 29. There he will be delivering a talk on "The New Frontier for Machine Translation: The Neural Frontier" addressing the recent developments in Neural Machine Translation (NMT) and describing Iconic's collaborative initiative with the world leading MT research group at the ADAPT Centre, Dublin City University. The partnership aims to explore where NMT fits into the current MT landscape and what impact it can have on dealing with complex content types such as eDiscovery documents or patent information.
"We have always found attending the annual GALA conference to be worthwhile and productive. The entire GALA community has been a great source of ideas and innovation for Iconic," said John Tinsley. "Joining GALA affirms our belief in the value it brings to the industry, the resources it provides, and the work it does in advocating for all its members to business, media, and government organisations. We are excited to be able to contribute even more as formal GALA members".
The Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) is a global, non-profit trade association for the language industry. As a membership organization, we support our member companies and the language sector by creating communities, championing standards, sharing knowledge, and advancing technology.
