Open-source TMS opens up language assets for BPM integration

Frederick, Maryland, USA
(March 26, 2009) – Welocalize launches the first major enhancement release for GlobalSight, the open-source Translation Management System (TMS), that addresses direct requests submitted by the open-source communitynow totaling 766 members. The new release marks the beginning of its 2009 roadmap trend to open-up the software further by providing direct access to language assets through external, business process applications.

GlobalSight 7.1.2available for free download on www.globalsight.comnow includes the ability to access the Translation Memory (TM) through a new web service API. GlobalSight users are able to query, update and add entries to the TM outside of the GlobalSight software by connecting to and exchanging data with third-party applications, such as community translation or crowdsourcing, and business reporting tools.

Alongside the extended web service APIs is a new API Test Tool to accelerate application development. The API Test Tool allows developers to test API calls and results quickly from a command prompt. For developers that are new to GlobalSight or web services, this tool significantly reduces testing time and provides a reference point for application development around the open-source TMS.

Future enhancements for GlobalSight planned for 2009 include Terminology Database APIs, expanded CMS integration, Translation Memory hierarchies, Machine Translation integration, Business Intelligence reporting and access to source code through OpenCVS.

“The web service APIs for GlobalSight focus on two things: extensibility and integration,” explains Gary Prioste, Vice President of Technology Services for Welocalize. “Open APIs are the key to streamlining processes within the entire global content supply chain, either through existing business process tools or custom-built applications. For enterprise clients, this can mean integration with machine translation, community translation, or business intelligence - all critical in managing high translation volumes efficiently and effectively. The APIs provide developers with the means to extend the functionality of GlobalSight to meet the global content management requirements of enterprises."
