New Affiliate Membership Expands Community of Language and Localization Professionals

Seattle, Washington, USA (13 January 2011) – The Globalization and Localization Association, the only truly global association within the language services and technology industry, is introducing a new membership level tailored toward companies using or considering localization and/or translation services.

The new Affiliate Membership will expand the overall GALA community, connecting localization professionals from around the world in a non-biased, non-sales environment. The membership level was developed in response to many requests from buy-side professionals interested in sharing and gaining knowledge and being part of the dynamic, global GALA community made up of more than 250 member companies in 45 countries.

Founded in 2002, GALA has grown internationally with professionals from localization and translation service provider companies who see value in engaging with other industry experts. In its first eight years, the association grew from 15 founding member companies to more than 250 member companies worldwide.

“GALA has been working hard to create resources, content and networking opportunities for our member companies, and our colleagues on the buy-side have recognized the value,” said Hans Fenstermacher, GALA Board Chair. “Affiliate Membership is our way of including buy-side companies in our growing, dynamic community.”

GALA is designing programming and content tailored specifically to the new Affiliate Member companies. An exclusive networked community for Affiliate Members has been developed as well as GALA webinars specific to buy-side issues. Affiliate Members also will be encouraged to use the broad resources already available through the association, including the Language Technology and Services Directory, the GALA Webinar Series, the quarterly newsletter, and the Language of Business conference series.

As with the Full Membership for language service and language technology providers, the new Affiliate Membership is by company, enabling the entire localization team to receive benefits when the company becomes a member. New members also receive a 25 percent discount on membership the first year.

More information about the new Affiliate Membership is available at the GALA website. The association will also give an overview of the benefits of membership at the Get Acquainted with GALA webinar, 25 January at 11AM Eastern (GMT -5).
