Globalization and Localization Association Announces 2011-12 Board Members
Long-term Members Elected to the Board
Seattle, Washington, USA (10 November 2010) – Members of the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) have elected three new board members for the 2011-12 GALA Board. The new board members, who were elected from a strong pool of nominated professionals, are veterans of the language services industry and have been long-term members of the association; one is a current board member now elected to a second term.
The newly elected board members are:
Serge Gladkoff (Logrus International, Russia)
Xavier Maza (iDISC Information Technologies, Spain)
Shelly Priebe (Priebe and Associates, USA)
The three new board members join the four continuing board members who are currently in the middle of their two-year terms: Hans Fenstermacher (TransPerfect/Translations.com), who is also the current board chair, Kim Harris (text & form GmbH), Aki Ito (TOIN Corporation), and Arturo Quintero (Moravia Worldwide).Two current board members, Robinson Kelly (ClayTablet Technologies) and Dimitri Stoquart (Stoquart SA), will be finishing their two-year terms at the end of 2010.
“The board sincerely thanks Robinson and Dimitri for their dedicated service over the past two years—they have worked hard with the GALA staff to create new services and programming for our members,” said Fenstermacher. “I’m also delighted to welcome Serge back to the board and to begin working with Xavier and Shelly, both of whom have been very active members for years.”
The new board will preside over growing member services for the GALA membership. This year the board has put together the framework for a new affiliate membership level for localization buyers, expanding the community of localization companies that belong to the association. The new level of membership will be offered at the beginning of 2011. Furthermore, GALA will hold its third Language of Business conference in 2011: GALA 2011, 28 – 30 March, in Lisbon, Portugal. This year the association has also expanded its educational webinar program, offering more than 30 professional development webinarsand it also introduced enhanced member services and educational programming for exporters.
About the New Directors
Serge Gladkoff, President, Logrus International
Serge Gladkoff graduated with honors from one of Russia’s leading ivy league nuclear physics science colleges (MEPhI). He has been engaged in the localization industry for more than 23 years; first as a deputy director of a software distribution company Dialogue-MEPhI, and then as a localization manager of Borland International's Moscow office. In 1993 he co-founded the Logrus International Corporation and remains actively engaged in company management and operations as President and CFO. Serge is currently a member of the GALA Board of Directors. He also is the founder and administrator of the Localization Professionals group within the business community portal LinkedIn. This is now the second largest community of localization professionals in the world, with more than 6,600 members, and growing. Serge is a speaker and presenter at many industry conferences and events and is the author of many articles (http://www.logrus.ru/pages/en-publications.aspx).
Xavier Maza. Language Services Manager, iDISC Information Technologies, S.L.
Xavier Maza joined iDISC nearly 20 years ago, and he is now a co-owner and member of the management board. He has a background in translation and management studies and studied in Autonomous University in Barcelona, Handelshoejskolen in Copenhagen and in the School of Languages and European Studies in Wolverhampton Polytechnic. He started as a freelance translator back in the early 1990s and evolved from project management roles to senior management roles at iDISC. Among his duties, he currently supervises business development, purchasing, customer services and quotes. He manages a heterogeneous department with project managers and engineers, plus a team of in-house language specialists and a pool of translators in the cloud. Xavier has worked as a freelance translator and has extensive knowledge in linguistic testing and QA as well as a good understanding of DTP and all the localization engineering processes and tools.Team management and motivation have been some of his drivers, as well as creating a clear vision of tools, procedures and innovation in the industry.He speaks Catalan, Spanish and English and is proficient in Danish and knows some Russian.
Shelly Priebe. Founder, Priebe & Associates; Executive Partner, SOLIDexecutive
Shelly’s fascination with cultures and language was cemented while she achieved her MBA in in Pau, France. She joined McElroy Translation in 1987 and served as President for over a decade until 2009. Priebe & Associates was founded in 2009 to offer a range of business consulting services to localization industry clients. Shelly also devotes time to her position as an Executive Partner with SOLIDexecutive, Inc., a boutique senior executive coaching and advisory firm with offices in Austin, Dallas, and Houston. Shelly speaks often at industry and business events, including GALA 2010, ATA TCD 2010, Housewares Export Council 2010, and Localization World Seattle 2010. She has also helped organize two recent GALA local networking events to promote membership and to share ideas with localization professionals throughout the Austin area.
