Wednesday, 4 January, 2006
Seattle, Washington, USA – GALA, the Globalization and Localization Association, is ending 2005 with a bang. The organization, which was formed in 2002, has grown to 180 member companies from around the globe. This, along with other exciting happenings at the year’s end, has positioned GALA as the leading trade association for the supply side of the translation and localization industry.
As GALA approaches its fourth anniversary, we are proud and excited about our Association's progress. In 2006 we expect to pass the 200-member mark with strong representation from all over the world,” stated founding Board Chair, Hans Fenstermacher. GALA currently boasts a membership from 35 countries (including 44% from Europe, 28% from North America, and 13% from Asia).
In addition, GALA recently announced the new 2006-2007 board members and officer positions:
Aki Ito, Prisma International (USA): Chair
Arancha Caballero, TSG Global (Spain) Vice Chair
Stephen Ryan, Moravia Worldwide (Czech Republic): Secretary
Christiane Bernier, Lionbridge Technologies (USA): Treasurer
Matthias Caesar, Locatech GmbH (Germany): At large
The other founding Board members and I, who are completing our terms at the end of 2005,” continued Fenstermacher, “are confident that the new Board members will continue to lead GALA in our effort to be the leading association that speaks for language service and tools providers. We look forward to a year of innovation and collaboration as we reach out beyond our industry to raise the visibility and importance of our members' activities in global business.”
Another important year end contribution came from PASS Engineering GmbH (Germany), a GALA member company, which made its annual generous donation in support of GALA. The PASSOLO GALA discount program saves members 5% on PASSOLO licenses and donates an additional 5% of the cost to GALA. In 2005, PASS donated a total of $8,150 to GALA.
We are proud to support GALA and its efforts through this program ” remarked PASSOLO Business Development Manager, Claudia Fricke, “and I assure you that PASSOLO will continue with these donations in the future.”
Another year end GALA accomplishment came in the form of its newly revised Web site. GALA recently launched a new home page and several new features, notably the GALA on Technology Blog. Developed by GALA members, the new blog is intended to be a non-biased open forum for discussion of the technological resources, new developments and on-going challenges that vendors and clients are facing in the localization and translation industries. GALA is happy to report that the new Blog has been quite successful and is seeing increased activity each month.
GALA is an international non-profit association that promotes translation services, language technology and language management solutions. The 180+ member companies worldwide include translation agencies, localization service providers, globalization consultants, and technology developers. GALA companies share a commitment to quality, service, and innovation in helping clients reach global markets.
