GALA Celebrates 10th Anniversary with New Member Contest
Who Will be GALA’s 300th Member?
The Globalization and Localization Association, the largest global non-profit association within the language and localization industry, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and quickly approaching 300 member companies worldwide. To celebrate, the association is offering a special savings opportunity for new members in February.
All first-time members who join GALA in February will be entered in a drawing to receive a free membership for their company. Current GALA members who recruit a new member to join during the month of February will also have a chance to win a discounted year of membership. Winners will be announced in March.
“Reaching the 300th member milestone will be a fun way to kick off our year-long celebration of GALA’s 10th anniversary,” said Laura Brandon, GALA Managing Director.
As membership in GALA has grown, member retention rates also have remained high. In the last year, 85 percent of members have renewed their membership. This high level of retention was reflected in the most recent member satisfaction survey, taken in third quarter 2011. In that survey, 97 percent reported satisfaction with their GALA membership.
One of the biggest advantages of GALA’s membership growth is that more industry professionals are participating in networking and educational opportunities offered by GALA. In a recent poll of members who joined the association in 2011, 90 percent indicated networking opportunities as the main reason they joined. GALA offers many real-world and virtual networking opportunities including its annual Language of Business conference, local networking events and social media networks. In 2012, GALA will introduce GALA Connect, an intra-member networking community.
Another benefit of increased membership is collective buying power. With 300 member companies and thousands of individuals worldwide, GALA has been able to create its GALA Marketplace to offer many discounts on events, software and more.
“We started GALA ten years ago with 15 members who wanted an association run by industry companies for industry companies,” said Hans Fenstermacher, current GALA Board Chair and Vice President of GALA member, TransPerfect / Translations.com. “Now we have grown exponentially and offer established programs and events to a worldwide network of companies.”
The association will celebrate its 10th anniversary throughout the year, including a special birthday party at the upcoming GALA 2012 Language of Business conference (26-28 March, Monaco).
