GALA Announces 2010-11 Board Members
Veterans of Industry to Lead GALA
Seattle, Washington, USA - Members of the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) have chosen new board members for the 2010-11 GALA Board. The four new members, who were elected from a pool of nominated professionals, are veterans of the language services industry; three of them are also former GALA Board chairs.
Aki Ito (TOIN Corporation)
Hans Fenstermacher (TransPerfect/Translations.com)
Kim Harris (text & form, GmbH)
Arturo Quintero (Moravia Worldwide)
The four new board members join the three continuing board members: Serge Gladkoff (Logrus International), Robinson Kelly (Clay Tablet Technologies), and Dimitri Stoquart (Stoquart SA) who are currently in the middle of their terms on the board. The current board chair, Michael Sank (TransPerfect/Translations.com), as well as board secretary, María Gabriela Morales (RosarioTraducciones y Servicios) will be finishing their two-year terms at the end of 2009 along with longstanding board member Matthias Caesar (Locatech, a Jonckers Company) who is completing four years of service on the board.
"We were fortunate to have such a strong pool of leaders from which to elect our new board members," said Sank. "It is especially exciting to welcome such long-time supporters of GALA who have always been hardworking volunteers for the association. This is the ideal board to help GALA as it expands geographically and increases services to members."
The new board will preside over new member services for the GALA membership. In 2009, GALA held its first conference for the language services and technology industry, entitled, "GALA 2009: The language of business. The business of language." Reviews of the conference were overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees impressed with the high level of content at the conference. This year GALA also expanded its educational webinar program for members and their customers, and increased an industry awareness program in Europe. It was also the first full year for GALA's first appointed executive director, James F. Hollan III.
"GALA is in a great place right now in the industry," said Hollan. "We are coming off our first conference, which was a solid success, and making major plans for 2010 that will provide education and resources for our members. It is exciting that our new board is made up of industry veterans who really care about the association."
Hans Fenstermacher, Kim Harris and Aki Ito were previously board chairs for GALA. Arturo Quintero is a long-time supporter; his colleague, Stephen Ryan was also a board chair in 2007.
