GALA 2011: The Language of Business. The Business of Language. 28-30 March in Lisbon

Tuesday, 17 August, 2010

Seattle, Washington, USA (17 August 2010) – The Globalization and Localization Association announces that its next conference for global content delivery professionals, “GALA 2011: The Language of Business. The Business of Language.” will be held 28-30 March 2011 in Lisbon, Portugal.

GALA 2011 will bring together the community of professionals involved in global content delivery. This community consists of all parties charged with transforming original content (software code, website content, product information, technical documentation, marketing materials, and more) into translated and localized content for consumption by people around the world. Attendees will include localization and internationalization project managers, language technology providers, and professionals from multiple and single language service companies.

The programming of GALA 2011 will consist of planned and spontaneous learning sessions and will provide attendees with the opportunity to collectively share, discuss and debate the latest innovations and advancements in localization, internationalization, translation and global content delivery. The association’s famed speed networking will be offered as will special supplemental activities for CEOs and for localization program managers. More details on the program will be available soon.

Feedback from GALA 2010, which was held this past May in Prague, was overwhelmingly positive. Jaroslav Sulc of Sun Microsystems said, “This was my first GALA conference and WOW what an experience. The range of topics covered, the quality of the speakers, and the highly efficient organization made it such a valuable and great experience. I met so many wonderful people who have accomplished extraordinary professional goals, yet they continue to reach back and share experience and best industry practices.”

Others spoke of the popular GALA networking and the productive yet fun atmosphere. “GALA 2010 gave me the opportunity to exchange knowledge, network with peers, make friends and renew connections with colleagues,” said Xavier Maza of iDISC Information Technologies, S.L. “It was very well organized (Swiss-watch-like)! The content was good and the location colorful with a rich cultural heritage.”

With GALA 2011, the conference travels to the colorful Iberian Peninsula and will be hosted at the Cascais Miragem Hotel. The hotel lies on the Atlantic Coast just outside of Lisbon in the resort town of Cascais. Transportation to and from the venue is quick and easy from the Lisboa Portela International Airport. Conference attendees will be able to enjoy the conference while meeting clients, vendors, partners or prospects in the business center of Portugal.

“The conference will bring together global content delivery professionals for informal and formal learning opportunities on delivering content to the global consumer,” said Robinson Kelly, Vice Chair of the GALA Board.“ It is our hope that GALA 2011 attendees leave inspired, recharged and educated to lead global content delivery internally at their enterprises and throughout the global business industry.”

GALA 2011 has an open call for papers for the conference, which can be downloaded from the conference website. Session proposals are due 08 October 2010.
