e-San Selects Conversis as Worldwide Translation Vendor for Mobile Phone Interface
OXFORD, England -- Conversis, a UK-based translation and localization company has won a contract from e-San, based in the UK, to support the translation of their mobile phone messaging services for the European market. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
e-San's pioneering systems deliver personalised healthcare information direct to patients suffering from chronic conditions -- such as diabetes and asthma -- via their mobile phones.
The output from a measuring device, like a blood glucose meter, is transmitted by an ordinary mobile phone to a secure server. The server prepares a graph that is sent straight back to the patient's phone screen, providing instant feedback. Clinical trials have shown this feedback has significant benefits and that it leads directly to better outcomes.
Healthcare professionals can also log on to review a patient's data in between surgery or outpatient appointments. If readings deviate from agreed parameters, patients are notified and support is offered.
Under the current contract, Conversis will translate the text messaging being sent via mobile phones for various European markets, which will support e-San's expansion into the EU.
According to Gary Muddyman, CEO and managing director of Conversis, users of
e-San's product will be able to receive data seamlessly through a process which Conversis has developed, allowing documents to be easily translated and then reintroduced into the e-San system via mobile phone. Several other vendors submitted proposals for the business, however Conversis was the only company to follow through not only with a workable solution, but also identifying where value could be added.
"We chose Conversis, not only because of its proven expertise in translation and localization, but also because the company provided us with guidance and advice throughout the entire process," said Greg Billington, product development director. "This is a fairly complex technology which supplies critical information to our customers. The Conversis team responded not only cost effectively and with on-time and speedy delivery but with a true understanding of our business," he added.
Through several face-to-face meetings with e-San developers, Conversis was able to develop a method where the external phone strings and Web text could be translated into an XML format suitable for an existing mobile phone infrastructure.
"We're excited that a company with such a unique offering is expanding its benefits to the European market, and we look forward to helping them adapt their software to deliver this critical information to their customers," said Muddyman. "As communication through mobile platforms becomes increasingly ideal for consumers on the go, we feel that it is invaluable for us to gain experience in this growing technology."
