Across Systems: Conferences in Cologne Booked Out
In early March, Across Systems GmbH hosted two events in Cologne, Germany: The software manufacturer held the LSP Day for language service providers on March 2 and the user conference for industrial enterprises on the following day. Thanks to the large number of participants, a colorful program, and the attractive new location, both events were highly successful. Guests from more than 20 countries came for the LSP Day.
At both Across conferences, the presentation program provided insight and an outlook on the development of the Across Language Server. On this occasion, Stefan Kreckwitz, who had served as Head of Development at Across until the end of February, and his successor Sergey Dubrovskiy also introduced the highlights of the latest Across version 6.3. The symbolic change of guards after the joint presentation was an emotional moment. Moreover, tips and tricks for more efficiency in the daily work with Across and information on crossMarket, the new online network for all Across users, were presented to the participants of both events.
Guest Presentations at the Across Conferences
At the LSP Day, Tom Shaw of Capita Translation and Interpreting held a guest presentation on the interaction between the SmartMATE machine translation technology and the Across Language Server on the basis of the Across solution crossConnect for External Editing.
In her guest presentation at the Across user conference, Renate Kenney of Sto SE & Co. KGaA showed how the internationally leading manufacturer of paint, plaster, varnish, coating, and exterior insulation finishing systems handles its extensive translation projects in a highly automated way with the Across Language Server. After the joint lunch, Stefan Kreckwitz stepped on the platform once again – now for the first time in his new role as CEO of Congree Language Technologies GmbH – and held a lecture on the optimization of source texts. On both conference days, the presentation program was supplemented with a podium discussion with invited translators on the subject "The Translator – An Unknown Being?".
The industrial customers and language service providers appreciated the feature voting. By means of a survey on potential new functions, the participants were given the opportunity to actively participate in the further development of the next Across version, which is scheduled for release in 2017.
Networking and Exhibition Area
Apart from the comprehensive presentation program, the participants were pleased to find various opportunities for networking, e.g. in the exhibition area. The partner companies Adobe, Congree, Lucy, and Plunet each had a booth at the user conference, and Capita, Lucy, Plunet, and the NTIF and DVÜD association presented themselves at the LSP Day. At both events, the participants were able to discuss questions on technical details and on crossMarket with Across experts. In line with the networking approach of crossMarket, the boat tour on the Rhine River on the evening of the first conference day enabled industrial customers and language service providers to meet and exchange information.
"Every year, the user conference and the LSP Day are special highlights. At these events, our customers and language service providers give us valuable impulses for the further development of our products, enabling us to align Across even more closely with their needs", explains Niko Henschen, CEO of Across Systems GmbH.
