Able Translations Ltd. Attains CAN/CGSB-131.10 Certification at Translation World 2009
On Tuesday, May 12, Translation World 2009 set the stage for a milestone in the Canadian language industry. During the morning plenary session on standards, Mr. Wilson Teixeira, President and Founder of Able Translations Ltd., was presented with the very first certification awarded to a Canadian firm under the new standard, CAN/CGSB-131.10-2008, Translation Services. As one of the first and few language service providers to become ISO 9001:2000 registered and EN15038 certified, this recent achievement further reinforces the very foundation upon which Able Translations was built, a company where quality is the priority.
Founded in 1994, Able Translations is one of Canada’s leading providers of multilingual language services, with offices across Canada, in Europe and Asia. At the core of Able stands Wilson Teixeira, an entrepreneur with a passion for language and world affairs, and a steadfast commitment to quality. His strong interest in global markets has led to his participation in various international trade missions, including two to China (one with the Premier of Ontario and one with the Prime Minister of Canada). He has been heavily involved in the development of standards for the language industry, both in Canada and internationally.
"Canada’s official bilingualism, multiculturalism and vibrant economy have nurtured a strong and innovative language industry led by the provision of translation services." stated Teixeira. "The ratification by the Standards Council of Canada of CAN/CGSB-131.10 as the national Standard of Canada for Translation Services is consistent with the healthy development of Canada’s language industry." The standard was developed after months of deliberation and hard work by a technical committee made up of representatives of the language industry, users, universities and professional associations.
The new National Standard of Canada is expected to benefit the Canadian language industry and the public at large by defining ?specific requirements for the provision of translation services by translation service providers (TSP) in the areas of human resources, technical resources, quality management systems, client-ISP relationship, project management procedures and translation process. Conformity assessment and TSP certification based on compliance with this Standard will likely become the golden rule in Canada’s language industry.
"Able Translations Ltd. is proud of achieving the CAN/CGSB-131.10 certification. This accomplishment, together with our ISO and EN certifications, signifies that we are continuing to meet our national and international quality mandate." declared Teixeira.
"We are proud to have launched this significant certification program at Translation World 2009", added Gonzalo Peralta, President of AILIA. This will also be a world first for translation service providers, which with one audit can obtain certification under the Canadian, European, and ISO standards. Mr. Teixeira’s dedication and contribution have made this achievement possible and we are grateful for his leadership."
In addition to serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Canada’s Language Industry Association (AILIA), Wilson Teixeira is also a member of the ISO technical committee 37 that is developing international standards for terminology and other language and content resources in the contexts of multilingual communication and cultural diversity. He also played a key role in the development of Canada’s National Standard Guide for Community Interpreting Services as part of the Healthcare Interpretation Network’s advisory committee.
