Over the years the translation industry has experienced a few disruptions that allowed us to be ready for today's translation needs, which are bigger than ever. Hassan experienced many of these in different scenarios in his 20-year career in this field - always as a customer of translation and linguistic services as well as provider of technology that was and is designed to support diverse translation needs. In this keynote, Hassan sketched out some of these use cases and described some of his observations on the history of the fusion of human translation and machine translation within these use cases, in particular in the commerce domain and from an artificial intelligence perspective.
With nearly 20 years of expertise in language technologies, Hassan Sawaf is well-recognized in the field of machine translation, speech recognition and machine learning. As senior director of cognitive computing at eBay, Hassan develops tools and services in language technology to open new markets and enable more opportunities for eBay customers around the world. Prior to joining eBay in April 2013, Hassan held management roles with several companies in the language solutions space, including AIXPLAIN AG, AppTek Inc., Net2Voice and SAIC. He holds a Master of Science degree in computer science from Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule.
