The webinar presents the results of the research that proves the vast gap between what translation students are taught at universities and what they will actually need in their professional life as translators. The presenters conducted a survey of two main translation industry stakeholders: Academia and Translation Companies.
All participants were asked to evaluate each of the 43 translator’s competences defined. It turned out that the two groups of respondents prioritized completely different competences as key for a modern translator. This is the most obvious proof of the gap between translation companies’ real needs and current Academia translators’ teaching objectives.
