The localization industry, like every other industry, is at the cusp of a revolution with the adoption of AI into businesses ecosystems and processes. Embracing AI as a positive step in our natural evolution will open up numerous opportunities. Our industry is human at its core and those opportunities will therefore have a huge impact on the traditional roles, molding new functions in the localization process that will necessitate different skillsets and competencies. What do those new roles look like and what type of professionals will our industry require by 2020? What will be the natural (r)evolution for those currently in traditional roles?
The panel will look specifically at the roles of translators and project managers, as well as the quality management and technology functions. This will be a practical and interactive discussion about how the 4th Industrial Revolution, and specifically AI, will affect global organizations sourcing localization services, and equally what this means for localization service providers.
María Jesús de Arriba Díaz
A globalization expert with 20+ years of localization experience, María has held multiple positions supporting the international growth of a multitude of global companies across all industries and verticals. María’s localization journey started heading up translation teams and championing quality, and quickly progressed to leading strategic operations and customer relationships as Language Services Manager and Chief Operations Officer. She is currently Strategic Accounts Director at Vistatec in Dublin. María is also Development Director for Think Global Forum, and EMEA GEO Manager in the Chapters & Global Expansion Program with Women in Localization. Both roles testimony of her passion for all things global. She is a native of Spain and has been living in Ireland for 20+ years. María speaks Spanish, English and French.
As somebody who has been actively involved in localization for over 20 years, I am passionate about the strength of our industry and also the constant need for us to keep evolving and re-inventing how we do things. I am an inclusionist: I believe everybody has something positive to offer, no matter where you sit at the table. Patricia Paladini Adell
Patricia Paladini Adell is the Globalization Director at CA Technologies, a Broadcom company, that develops IT software in the planning, development, management and security areas that helps organizations of all sizes to drive enterprise-wide productivity, create differentiated user experiences and increase competitiveness. On top of managing the daily operations of the Globalization team, Patricia is responsible for the coordination and execution of process improvement initiatives focused on optimizing localization processes among the Localization team and also cross other departments, especially with Tech Writers and Product Development. Her current focus is on supporting Product development teams to full fill their internationalization requirements in Agile development cycles. Patricia holds a Degree in Translation and Interpreting by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and also several Masters and Post-Degrees in Translation and Communication related subjects: IT applied to Translation & Localization, Medical translation, Legal translation and Science communication. She has participated in several Leadership courses, holds a Green Belt Certification on Lean Six Sigma and a SAFe Agilist (SA) Certification. Patricia's professional experience includes positions as translator and technical writer at HP and Roche. On the education area, she has taught Computers for Translators for first and fourth year students at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and several Translation tools in the Tradumàtica Masters (UAB). She is also member of several Translation Associations and the Women in Localization Catalan Chapter Manager. She is also enrolled in a PhD at the Departament de traducció on Measuring and visualizing technical debt related to i18n issues.
István Lengyel is the founder of BeLazy Ltd, the company that makes agile localization possible across the entire supply chain. Previously, he was one of the founders of Kilgray, the makers of memoQ, and held various positions in the company. He tried most roles in the industry: he worked as a translator, as Director for Customer Success for On Global Language Marketing, and as a consultant for several other companies. He holds several degrees including a PhD in translation studies from the ELTE University of Budapest. He is passionate about technology, and believes that machine learning and artificial intelligence will have a much more far-reaching effect in the society than most of us would ever imagine.
