Sandberg announces transition to employee ownership

London, UK - June 7, 2023 - Sandberg Translation Partners, a leading UK-based language service provider specialising in the Nordic languages, has announced its transition to employee ownership. The move, which took place on May 31, 2023, represents a significant shift in the company's ownership structure and paves the way for a promising future.

Previously owned solely by Jesper Sandberg, the Founder and Chairman, and Anu Carnegie-Brown, the Managing Director, the shares of Sandberg Translation Partners are now owned by an employee ownership trust (EOT) on behalf of the current and future employees of the company.

"We are thrilled to embark on this exciting journey of indirect employee ownership," said Anu Carnegie-Brown, in her LinkedIn announcement. "Our decision to transition to employee ownership stems from our dedication to preserving our company's legacy and ensuring the continuation of its current culture and values. We believe that this long-term strategy will benefit all our stakeholders "

The employee ownership trust (EOT) model, introduced by the UK government in 2014, enables all or a significant portion of a company's ownership to be held by or on behalf of its employees.

Sandberg has adopted the indirect employee ownership approach, where a trust holds all the company's shares. This approach offers practical advantages, simplifying the process of buying and selling shares and providing employees with the benefits of indirect ownership while employed.

By transitioning to employee ownership, Sandberg Translation Partners aims to enhance employee engagement, improve productivity, and promote job creation and retention. Employees will receive a financial stake in the business without any upfront investment, and their collective benefits will be distributed as annual bonuses.

The UK EOT model has emerged as a viable and controllable exit alternative to traditional merger and acquisition options, allowing companies to safeguard their legacy and empower their workforce.

Jesper Sandberg, the Executive Chairman of Sandberg Translation Partners, emphasised the careful consideration behind this decision, stating, "We've explored various options over the years, and the EOT solution stood out due to the control it grants us during our gradual transition to retirement. The tax incentives offered by the UK government further supported our choice."

Jesper Sandberg carries on in the role of Executive Chairman on a part-time basis, and Anu Carnegie-Brown, the Managing Director, will continue to lead the company's day-to-day operations and drive its growth.

Sandberg Translation Partners' transition to employee ownership marks an exciting chapter for the company and reinforces its commitment to delivering exceptional language services while prioritizing the well-being and prosperity of its employees.
