EMPOWER announces Paula Shannon as advisory board member

Paula Shannon (she/her), Founder and Principal of Canadian-based sales consultancy firm Salosophy, joins the Advisory Board of research localization agency EMPOWER Translate as Non-Executive Director.

Shannon utilises 30 years of localization sales and investment experience to advise on growth, revenue, and business development for EMPOWER.

From 1999 to 2017, Shannon managed global sales for localization giant Lionbridge Technologies, Inc., serving as Chief Sales Officer, Senior Vice President and spending three years as Co-General Manager in Operations. During this time, Shannon saw Lionbridge sales increase from US$38m to US$600m. Following a successful sale of the company to a private equity firm, Shannon continued as a consultant from 2017 until 2019.

Shannon holds prestigious accolades for her work, including the International Stevie Award in 2004 for “Best Sales Executive”, the 2006 Women in Business Award for “Best Canadian Executive”, the 2008 “Women in the Lead – Femmes de Tête” award, and being

With a B.A. in Russian and German and a minor in Linguistics from McGill University, Montréal (Canada), Shannon started her career as Chief Marketing and Sales Officer for multinational professional services agency Alpnet Inc. (now SDL plc), before spending a decade with Berlitz Corporation, a global language education and leadership training company.

Shannon currently serves as Chief Evangelist for Silicon Valley start-up Lilt, Inc., an AI-powered translation tech and services company. She is a board member of the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA), and board member for private equity firm HKW’s portfolio company, Traductions Serge Bélair, Inc. (TRSB).

Shannon is also the first female Vice President in the 150-year history of the Royal Montréal Golf Club.

‘As is true for the insight industry, I am fascinated by the ways in which human and data intertwine in the world of translation, where the highest challenge is to balance a data-driven approach with the psycholinguistic needs of global campaigns,’ comments Shannon on her decision to join the board. ‘I see EMPOWER’s work as being in the upper quadrant in this way, and look forward to advising Ruth and her team on achieving sustainable growth.’
