GALA is pleased to announce support of the European Commission-funded QTLaunchPad project, an endeavor to improve translation technology through industry collaboration with European research institutes. In its pursuit of a more effective integration of intellectual skills and technological capabilities, the project also aims to define a new flexible umbrella quality metric for human and machine translation, addressing the confusion and uncertainty associated with the measurement of both.
QT Launchpad is led by the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). The consortium consists of the Center for Next Generation Localisation at Dublin City University (DCU), Athena Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP), and the University of Sheffield, along with the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA).
GALA’s role in the project will be to gather the voice of the corporate language community and to guarantee that the relevant project results reach their prospective users in the LSP sector. Member and industry companies are encouraged to participate to help ensure that measurements will truly meet industry needs and that the targeted cooperation between industry and research will indeed be successfully launched.
Translation Quality Survey
GALA conducted a survey on behalf of QTLP, designed to evaluate the role of translation technology and quality in professional translation and workflows. Read the summary in the Q2 Edition of GALAxy.
