We're only six months in, and already 2020 has been a year like no other! There have been hardships, for sure, but the current state of affairs has encouraged new ways of working, socializing, and of being a community. At GALA, we see an opportunity to broaden our community and enable more participation from our members around the globe. GALA Connected will facilitate exactly what we have always strived for: wider engagement with a diversity of industry players. All plugged in and connected to one another.

Conventional wisdom has it that the future of the localization industry depends on how well we adapt to new technologies. We at GALA think that our community can do more, that we can be more: instead of only adapting and adopting, we can drive the future and have a say in the creation of the processes and tools of our trade. GALA Connected presents a unique opportunity to shape that future.
Organized as a virtual conference, GALA Connected will afford a wider audience the opportunity to engage and discuss what the future will hold. At an affordable price point it will also provide more professionals — be they supply- or buy-side, start-up or mature business, academia or private sector, core or allied industry, LSP or language technology provider — to join this conversation. We can only build a shared future through wider participation of the entire international community and GALA Connected is the right forum at the right time to begin the building process.
At GALA Connected 2020 we will get together to define what the future of the language industry will look like. What technology do we actually need to make our workflows more efficient, deliver localized content faster, and in more languages? Which business models enable true collaboration between client and suppliers on the one hand, and multi- versus single-language suppliers on the other? What data should we collect – and how – to help us understand what delights our customers so we can better serve them? And where should localization really fit in the production process?
Our interactive delivery platform and session formats will facilitate the discussion and help us expand our thinking, define our needs, and lead to actionable outcomes. To that end, we have chosen speakers who are brave and bold – speakers who will dare to challenge entrenched ideas and lead sessions where they engage with the community in in-depth discussions.
