GALA 2020 Postponement FAQ
Why is GALA postponing the event?
Given the global nature of our conference and the fluid and uncertain conditions of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we believe it is in everyone’s best interests to reduce the potential exposure that accompanies international travel and large gatherings for the time being.
What are my registration options?
We are offering delegates three choices vis-à-vis registration:
- Carry forward your initial registration to the rescheduled conference in September
- Substitute a colleague for the rescheduled conference
- Cancel registration for a refund (a $125 administrative fee will apply)
Why am I being charged a cancellation fee?
There are two main reasons for a cancellation fee: 1) there is administrative overhead on cancellation and refund activities and 2) GALA incurs unrecoverable costs based on headcount prior to the conference. This administrative fee aligns with our Cancellation and Substitution Policy.
By when do I need to let you know my plans?
All delegates will receive an email from GALA via SurveyMonkey on 11 March. (We will also send a few reminders.) Please respond via SurveyMonkey by 1 June 2020, selecting one of the three options listed above. If we do not hear from you by 1 June, we will carry forward your initial registration to the rescheduled conference. Please contact GALA if you have not received the email questionnaire by 13 March.
Will I be charged for hotel fees?
If you booked at the Manchester Grand Hyatt within the GALA room block, you will not incur any charges so long as you cancel your room at least 72 hours prior to your originally scheduled arrival. If you booked elsewhere, please check that hotel's cancellation policy.
If I decide to re-register, will my cancellation fee be applied to my new registration?
No, it will not apply. The cancellation fee is non-refundable.
What if I have an unpaid invoice?
If you are keeping or substituting your registration, any outstanding payments are still due to GALA within 30 days of your original registration. If you have not yet paid your invoice and are choosing to cancel, the $125 USD administrative fee still will still need to be remitted.
What if I signed up for tours?
We will still offer the North County Beach and Art Tour and the Tequila, Tacos, and Tombstones Tour of Old Town. The whale watching tour cannot be offered since it will no longer be whale migration season. Anyone who purchased a whale watching tour will be refunded the full amount of the tour.
Do you have an official letter of cancellation I can provide to my airline/hotel/travel insurance, etc.?
Yes, please download the letter and edit with your own name and the date before using it.
