Red T: Protecting linguists at risk protects us all!
Translators and interpreters are increasingly persecuted, prosecuted, imprisoned, kidnapped and assassinated across the globe. To publicize and combat this critical state of affairs, Red T, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 2010 to advocate worldwide for linguists in conflict zones and other high-risk settings.
As the only organization of its kind, we work in partnership with the major international language associations to urge governments to institute and improve policies relating to Red T’s cause. Among our initiatives are the Open Letter Project in which we appeal to authorities on behalf of embattled colleagues, the development of guidelines for T/Is working in conflict zones and a UN petition that calls for protected status for linguists in conflict situations.
