The Association of Translation Companies (ATC) was formed in 1976 making it one of the world's longest established professional organisations representing the interests of the companies operating in the language market. While its membership is made up principally of Language Service Providers (LSPs) based in the UK, around 10 percent of its membership is drawn from LSPs based in other countries around the world. This reflects the importance of the UK language industry, which, latest research shows, is one of the world's top three markets generating in excess of £1 billion ($1.52 billion) worth of revenue annually.
The ATC undertakes market research, a programme of government relations activities aimed at the UK Government and, through the European umbrella organization it helped to form, the European Union of Associations of Translation Companies, European institutions. As one of the world's longest established language industry membership bodies it has helped support the development of a number of national associations in Europe and beyond.
It has developed longterm relationships with a number of UK universities looking at a wide range of issues affecting the next generation linguists, as well partnering with them to develop specific research initiatives. It produced a National Framework for Graduate Placements, which was used as the foundation for the development of Europe-wide scheme. It organizes an annual conference and a range of Continued Professional Developmnent (CPD) courses for its members throughout the year.
The Association of Translation Companies is proud to be a member of GALA's Partner Programme.
