UTICamp: Translators, Collaboration, Tents
The Ukrainian Translation Industry Conference (UTIC) 2016 took place on June 10-12 in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The conference was unofficially named UTICamp as the venue was very unusual — the pine forest near the river. UTIC organizers have renovated the territory of the former Meteorite children sports camp, which was abandoned for 10 years.
171 attendees from 11 countries came to UTIC-2016: Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Israel, Poland, Romania, Italy, Spain, Luxembourg, USA, and India. 72 more were watching the event online from around the world.
On the first day of UTIC-2016 there was a guided tour around the city of Dnipro, the workshop "Soft Skills of an Interpreter" and the welcome reception.
On the following two days delegates attended presentations divided into 3 tracks: "The Art of Translation," "The Business of Translation," and "Localization and Translation Technologies." Hans Fenstermacher, Chief Operating Officer of United Language Group and a GALA co-founder, as well as Kimmo Rossi, Head of Research & Innovation sector, Unit G3, European Commission, gave keynote speeches.
There were 36 presentations and 8 interactive sessions, adding up to more than 30 hours of total hours of presentations. All the tracks of UTIC were simultaneously translated into English and Russian, both for the attendees and online participants.
On Saturday, colleagues and peers gathered for the gala evening to celebrate the biennale and to relax on the riverside with some good music, snacks, and wine. Some attendees proved they have many talents, playing musical instruments and singing.
GALA was a media partner of UTIC-2016, and the organizing committee appreciated the support from the association.
All the video recordings of the sessions will be available on the UTIC YouTube channel.
