With 11 official languages, and on the continent of Africa which has the fastest growing population in the world, the translation industry in South Africa is buzzing. South Africa’s new generation (like the rest of the world) will live in a digital world driven by individual preferences and high expectations for personalised content in their mother-tongue. This is an enormous opportunity and will open many doors to linguists and language service providers to work with clients, agencies and MLV’s to translate and localise their content into South African languages.
This webinar provides an overview of Expedia Group's text assembly system and localization across 40 languages, including: customer facing content types, examples of how data is assembled into text strings, how localization is applied, and some remaining localization challenges. The presentation would be of interest to those interested in content solutions that scale across large catalogs in multiple languages.
Reaching human parity has been the goal of automatic translation since its inception in 1954. In this webinar we establish criteria of measuring translation quality, and see how it fares against human translation and against today’s automatic translation. We discuss the results, inspect whether these results are valid, and explore what is still keeping us from using machine translation exclusively to communicate across language barriers.
We look at some ethical issues with automatic translation as well.
