2020-2021 Board Candidate: María Jesús de Arriba Díaz

María Jesús de Arriba Díaz
Vistatec
Director, Strategic Accounts

Candidate Background

During my 20+ years in the globalization and localization industry, I have been fortunate to hold multiple positions supporting the international growth of numerous global companies of all sizes and verticals.

My localization journey started as a translator and interpreter, then heading up translation teams and championing quality; evolved into project management leading exceptional teams, and had the opportunity to work closely with outstanding talent in our industry as vendor manager. From there I quickly progressed to leading strategic operations and customer relationships as Language Services Manager, and Chief Operations Officer. I am currently Director of Strategic Accounts at Vistatec in Dublin.

Each and every one of these roles has allowed me to understand how individual functions contribute to and collaborate toward the overall success of global organizations, while experiencing first-hand the challenges they face.

I am also Development Director for Think Global Forum, and EMEIA GEO Manager with Women in Localization within the Chapters & Global Expansion Program. Both roles are testimony to my passion for all things global.

I am a native of Spain and have been living in Ireland for 20+ years. I speak Spanish, English and French, and love "communicating" in a bunch of other languages.

Personal Statement

”Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” - Henry Ford

Our curiosity for other cultures and ways of seeing the world, our quest to understand and be understood, and our unrelenting desire to enable communication and access to information across the globe has brought us together, to become part of the language industry family.

With the dawn of the new era for our industry, a multitude of opportunities have opened up, and optimized collaboration is vital to sustain the profound changes that will benefit everyone. I believe this is the key to advancing the language industry.

As part of the GALA Board of Directors, I will serve each and every one of our members, by building bridges between traditionally siloed functions within our industry: buyers & technology/localization providers, internationalization & localization teams within the same organization, content teams & localization teams, product development/global marketing & localization teams, industry & academia, researchers & professionals, not-for-profits & businesses, sales & operations within LSPs, literally across the whole spectrum of areas that localization touches upon, is affected by, or has an impact on.

I envisage deep collaboration among stakeholders in the language industry and other adjacent areas (product development, UX/CX, global marketing, among others) that will accelerate advances, eliminate duplication of efforts and streamline processes, enable knowledge transfer, and ultimately facilitate shared goals.

My focus will be on enabling all our members to leverage the collective intelligence to define best practices, education and awareness programs, and strategies that will continue to demonstrate the language value chain.

“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” - Ryunosuke Satoro
