GALA Webinar: The MT Post-Editing Experiment

21 June 11:00 EDT (17:00 CEST)

Join this kick-off webinar that will begin an experiment with machine translation. Presenters Jörgen Danielsen and David Canek will provide MT post-editing starter kits that will include the necessary advice to easily start on post-editing with zero financial costs. Webinar attendees will then be given two months to run their own MT post-editing pilots with whatever technology they choose and invited to attend a follow-up webinar in September where results will be summarized, examined, and discussed.

Much interest has been building up around machine translation post-editing in the past few months including many MT related presentations at the GALA 2012 conference in Monaco as well as in the GALA webinar series. There has been lots of talk, and now it’s time for some action. Jörgen Danielsen who ran a successful series of workshops on MT at the GALA conference and David Canek, who led a very well attended GALA webinar on MT post-editing, would like to invite to you this kick-off webinar for an MT post-editing experiment.

The goal is to gather a group of translation practitioners interested in initiating an MT post-editing pilot and to share their experiences and results. During the webinar, Jörgen and David will provide an MT post-editing starter kit that will include the necessary advice for anyone to easily get started on post-editing with zero financial costs. Webinar attendees will then be given two months to run their own MT post-editing pilots with whatever technology they choose. Everyone's experiences will be periodically gathered and shared among the group. A follow-up webinar will then be held in September where results will be summarized, examined, and discussed.

About the presenters
After studying mathematics and physics, Jörgen Danielsen founded a translation company and bought his first MT system in 1990. He sold his company to INTL.com and worked as President Enterprise Solutions. When INTL.com was acquired by Lionbridge, Jörgen was appointed Vice President Process and Technology and worked in the USA for two years. After four more years acting as Managing Director of Lionbridge Germany and of Logoport GmbH and as Head of Sales Continental Europe at the same time, he decided it was time to implement his own ideas regarding customer-based services again and founded Eule Lokalisierung GmbH.

David Canek is the founder and CEO of MemSource Technologies, a software company that was the first to integrate machine translation post-editing with a translation memory system. MemSource Server and its cloud version, MemSource Cloud, include translation memory, integrated machine translation, terminology management, advanced MT post-editing support, and MemSource Editor, a translator’s workbench that is available as a free download.
