Candidate Background:

I joined Welocalize in 2006 through the merger of M2 Enterprises where I was President of our family-owned, 28-year-old firm. As part of one of the oldest LSP companies, I myself worked in the industry for over 20 years during which I witnessed the growth and evolution of the entire localization field. In my professional career, I have held many different positions including localization engineer, project manager, department manager, sales manager, Vice President and President.

I have been active in several organizations by participating in workshops, holding speaking engagements, and contributing papers and articles. This includes the ATA, IWIPS, Association of Language Companies, GALA, CSN, State of Maryland, US Department of Commerce, and the recent series of sessions and articles titled "M&A Uncovered" with Localization World/Multilingual Computing.

At Welocalize, I am responsible for the M&A and Marketing efforts while continuing to work with many other language providers in our industry.

I hold an Engineering degree with a CS specialty from the University of Maryland. My wife, 3 children and I happily live in Frederick Maryland, USA with our myriad of pets.

Personal Statement:

The globalization and localization industry is at a critical nexus point that presents a unique opportunity for GALA.

Key factors are coming together that demonstrate how localization is an essential element for corporate economic growth. True supply chain management is possible with integrated language technology solutions. Industry leaders such as Microsoft and Google continue to push the demand for more languages and services with a broader reach to feed their corporate growth across new emerging markets. Finally, the number of localization suppliers has exploded with growth in all geographical areas, especially from India and China.

The combination of greater demand, mature technology and extensive suppliers represents an industry ready for the next step in the evolution of globalization. This puts GALA in an optimal position to play a greater, more influential role.

By working together, the GALA organization can reach out to a greater spectrum of industries to demonstrate the maturity and breadth of the language community. Many global companies are unaware of the localization process and technologies, and lack access to the knowledge that has been developed over the past 20 years. GALA can expand the partnerships with technology providers to standardize processes such as data exchange and business regulations, benefiting the entire community. Ultimately, GALA will be able to provide increased business education and general support to its members.

My extensive history in the industry, coming from a privately-held company to a larger leading language provider gives me a unique perspective that can help GALA over the next two years. I have an extensive relationship with many of the GALA member companies and understand their position and needs. Too much effort is spent by each of our member companies reinventing the same solutions, promoting the same education, while working hard to ensure company growth.

As a team, GALA can provide the leadership and support for members to grow our industry and increase opportunities at a professional and personal level.

As a member of the GALA board, I believe I can provide leadership and input to help this become a reality.
