Additional Deliverables

The GALA Standards Initiative has established the following list of additional activities that will be undertaken, as permitted by funding and resources.

• Educational and Training Materials. Education and training is a critical part of standards usage and development and GALA will develop both general educational materials and detailed training materials about standards.

• Modular Framework for the Assessment of Quality (MFAQ). This framework will provide a standardized way to assess the linguistic/localization quality of translations, texts, and products in various languages across a wide variety of domains. Building upon the development of MFAQ (see above), the GALA Standards Initiative will partner with other bodies to develop default selections of error categories to allow exchange of relevant and meaningful domain-specific quality data.


• Promotion of Open-Source or Standards-Based Tools. The GALA Standards Initiative will provide information on open-source or standards-based tools and components. It will also participate directly in relevant efforts (such as OpenTM2) to ensure their viability and long-term success.

• Development/Promotion of Standard Globalization-Related Resources. The GALA Standards Initiative will work with standards bodies to develop or disseminate standard globalization-related resources: tools to filter target translation against inappropriate words, segmentation rules for various languages, hyphenation rules, etc.

• Facilitating professional certification. The GALA Standards Initiative will facilitate professional certification of individuals for knowledge of tools, processes, quality requirements, project management skills, and other professional criteria.

• Special Interest Groups on Regional Standards/Regulations. The GALA Standards Initiative will establish open Special Interest Groups (SIGs) focused on the standards, regulatory, and business needs for specific markets. These groups would deal with education and industry response to issues important in a given market.

• Pooled Research, Development, and Analysis. The GALA Standards Initiative, in collaboration with partners, plans to conduct research on standards-related topics to provide research to the community.
   
• Industry-Wide Terminology Sharing. The GALA Standards Initiative will leverage existing standards to provide access to user-supplied terminology using social-media technologies that will allow users to propose and vote on terms.
   
• Global Standards Sharing Initiative (GSSI). A long-term project, the Global Standards Sharing Initiative (GSSI) will work with companies to build a database of vertical industry-specific standards that impact global projects organized by country, vertical industry, and purpose.
