At the tip of Africa… at the tip of your finger In 2000 we launched Folio Online, to serve our rapidly expanding list of international clients. E-technology gives you, wherever you are, the same benefits of speed, confidentiality and all-round service that have made us the language consultants of choice, whether to business, private individuals or governments. A certain quality Most of Folio’s translators, interpreters and consultants have tertiary qualifications on top of years of experience, and all have to satisfy our exacting standards before joining our panel. Before any document is delivered to a client, it is thoroughly proof-read, and scrutinised by a second language professional if a client so requires. That’s how we can say confidently – we stand by our word. Confidentiality is as important to us as it is to you. We value our reputation for discretion, so not only does Folio sign a confidentiality agreement with you, but we also require all translators to sign a non-disclosure agreement before they start work. We store confidential documents in a secure place and no proprietary information is ever released. Original documents are returned to clients on request. *Translations Acknowledged leaders in African language translation, offering even rare regional languages, Folio also translates in every major international language. Whatever you need, from annual reports to video scripts, from training manuals to websites, including work which calls for an advanced degree of knowledge like cellphone software translation, our team of qualified translators delivers it on target, on time and on budget. Because Folio is not a virtual office, we are able to give our translators all the technical facilities they need, as well as personal guidance and training in using the latest software. Working at the cutting edge of translation technology, we also use the latest CAT-tools (computer-assisted translation software), such as Trados, Wordfast, SDLX and others) when appropriate. Other non-Latin alphabets and scripts, like Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi or Amharic? No problem! We have Standard, Unicode, and UTF8 fonts available for many languages using non-Latin fonts and can also provide you with help on the best font (or even the font itself) to use for certain languages when doing DTP work. This service ranges from light editing or proof-reading, where we make sure the text is free of spelling and grammatical errors, mistranslations or missing text, to heavy editing where a text can be adapted and changed according to a client’s brief or target audience. We strongly recommend proofreading by a 2nd language professional after translation. With the exception of Afrikaans, English and German, proof-reading by an independent proof-reader is not included in the price of the translation. We also offer post-DTP proofreading. Whether it be radio or TV scripts, print advertisements or brochures, packaging or other media, we will write or rewrite it to suit your needs, in the style, idiom and spirit you want. And the transcription translated into another language? Just e-mail or courier us the tape or voice clip, and we will transcribe and, if necessary, translate it into whatever language you require. We use proper transcription software and hardware and can accommodate cassettes, CDs and files in MP3, WAV, WMA and WMV format. Folio can tailor the communication to the desired market in a process that goes beyond translation to address contemporary and colloquial use of language and cultural nuances, such as notational conventions and differences in symbols, colour associations and payment preferences. Even more than ordinary translation, specialised areas like online help screens or electronic documentation require extra care and attention. Not only cultural but also technical differences must be taken into account, and this is one of Folio’s main strengths. Whisper interpreting or chucotage is also available, as is sign language. We can also arrange for a interpreter to be present for a teleconference. For visitors to South Africa who are not fluent in English, we can provide chaperone/guides who will drive or accompany you to meetings or tourist sites and interpret for you, to ensure you get the maximum understanding and enjoyment from your visit.
