Meet the 2005 GALA Board
GALA welcomes Aki Ito and Arancha Caballero to the 2005-2006 GALA Board. The GALA Board is composed of five volunteer members who are elected by the GALA membership and serve for two-year terms.
Hans Fenstermacher, Chair
President and Founder of ArchiText Inc., USA
Hans is president and founder of ArchiText Inc., a globalization and localization services company. At ArchiText, Hans has pioneered the ABREVE® process for optimizing content and reducing localization costs and time to market. Born in Germany, Hans speaks six languages and holds a B.A. in Russian from Princeton University and an M.A.L.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. His professional career has included translation, interpreting, editing, authoring, management, marketing and business development work, writing assignments for the U.S. Department of Defense, and work for the International Olympic Committee. In addition to being founding Chairman GALA, he is past president of the Boston Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. He lives in Methuen, Massachusetts, with his wife and three children.
Aki Ito, Vice Chair
Vice President of Global Technical Communication at Prisma International, USA
A native of Japan, Aki Ito has been involved in the localization industry for nine years in many different aspects of localization activities such as sales management, operations management, project management, Japanese language management and consulting, and translation memory tool management at different companies, including Prisma International, Lionbridge Technologies, and DDS Global Media. Prior to the localization industry, he was an account executive at Dell Computer in the U.S. and Japan, selling personal computers and networking solutions to multinational companies for their worldwide implementations. Aki has an MBA in International Marketing and a BA in International Relations. Aki likes playing basketball and baseball. He had his dream job in 2000 when he was hired as the official Japanese interpreter for the Colorado Rockies Baseball Club, traveling all over the country with major league players. He and his wife, Jennifer, have three children: Miya (7), Ayana (6), and Jeffrey (3). The family likes to go camping on the beautiful lakes in Minnesota (in summer, of course).
Arancha Caballero, Secretary
Co-founder and COO of TSG (Servicios de Traducción GLOTAS), Spain
Arancha Caballero is Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of TSG. She is responsible for the overall operations of TSG in both Europe and the United States. Ms. Caballero received her Translation and Interpreting Degree from the University of Granada and her MBA in Strategic Management from the University of Madrid. She started her career as an in-house Spanish translator for ITP (Bray, Ireland), one of the historic names in the localization industry. She is recognized as an authority on Spanish within the industry and is frequently asked to submit presentations and articles on the topic of localization. As TSG continues to grow in size and reach, Ms. Caballero is committed to making sure that all TSG clients continue to receive the personal touch that she is so proud TSG has been able to maintain. Arancha notes, “As a Mediterranean, I like to enjoy good chats with friends and family over a nice meal, but also enjoy traveling and meeting people from other cultures, something that this industry easily allows!”
Renée Sztabelski, Treasurer
Founder, President and CEO, Hitext S.A., Belgium
Renée was born in Poland and was educated and lived in Israel, Germany, the Netherlands, France and Belgium. She is fluent in six languages and has extensive experience in international sales and marketing, having worked throughout Europe, North America and Israel for high-technology companies. Renée holds a MBA from Boston University Brussels and Masters of Accountancy and Finance from the Brussels College. Renée is often a guest speaker at international technology and Internet conferences speaking about globalization and multicultural aspects in an Internet society. Renée also has a passion for international cuisine, and she enjoys preparing different dishes for her beloved husband Hohey and friends.
Daniel Carter
Director of International Business, TOIN Corporation
Daniel is an industry veteran with over 20 years experience in the software and localization sector. Currently he is Director of International Business for TOIN Corporation, the oldest and largest Asian translation supplier in Japan. Prior to this, he founded International Software Products (ISP) in 1989. ISP is an information-technology localization firm providing translation and localization services to technology companies. He served as CEO and President until 2002. Daniel wrote, "Writing Localizable Software for the Macintosh", which was published in 1991 by Addison Wesley as part of the Apple Inside Out series. He has also published numerous articles and given presentations at many industry conferences. From 1983 to 1989, Daniel held various positions at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington, including Group Localization Manager, Software QA Manager, and Systems Software Engineer. Daniel received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science cum laude from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. Daniel is married and has four children, ages five through thirteen. He lives in a small village just outside of Amsterdam. In addition to spending as much time as possible with his family, he has a passion for active sports, particularly downhill skiing, tennis, and field hockey.
