24 May 2012
The First Forum on the Language Industry Web Platform (LIND-Web) will take place in Brussels on 24 May 2012.
LIND-Web is an EU initiative to promote the language industry and gain data on its different sub-sectors (translation, interpretation, tools, training, etc.). During the conference of an estimated 250 attendees, there will be plenaries and workshops tackling challenges and exploring opportunities of the language industry.
The conference will stream live on the web and will be recorded for download from the LIND-Web website.
The LIND-Web Platform originates from a study on the size of the EU language industry published by the Directorate General of Translation in November 2009. It provides access to important information about the EU language industry shared by language professionals, industry stakeholders (i.e. associations, universities and service providers) and EU institutions in order to promote visibility and recognition of the language industry. Users may search or upload documents in any EU language in eight main fields:
The aim of LIND-Web is to create a community of interest within the EU language industry, generate statistics that will permit a better understanding of the sector, and enhance job creation and recognition for the industry. The platform is a valuable tool for promoting the EU language industry's growth and recognition as an independent economic sector.
